features

Macroscopic features

Hyphoderma cryptocallimon has resupinate, membranous-waxy fruiting bodies typical for the genus Hyphoderma . They are whitish to cream in color. Your hymenium is smooth under the naked eye, but shows pores and protruding cystids under a magnifying glass and thus appears felty.

Microscopic features

As with all Hyphoderma species, the hyphae structure of Hyphoderma cryptocallimon is monomitic, i.e. it only has generative hyphae . The 3–5  µm wide hyphae are hyaline and heavily branched, the septa always have buckles . The cystids are tubular and slightly thickened towards the tip. They end in a blunt point and stand out clearly from the fruit layer at 80–125 × 8–12 µm. The basidia of the species are club-shaped to approximately urn-shaped, have four sterigmata and measure 25–40 × 7–10 µm. They have a buckle at the base . Their spores are ellipsoid, hyaline and thin-walled. They measure 8–10 × 4.5–6 µm and always have an extension ( apiculus ).

distribution

The known distribution of the species covers large parts of Europe , but it is considered rare or not very common everywhere.

ecology

Hyphoderma cryptocallimon grows on rotten, mostly debarked and fallen dead wood from conifers and deciduous trees . Preferences are difficult to identify due to the thin site, known substrates include European beech ( Fagus sylvatica ), Norway spruce ( Picea abies ) and silver fir ( Picea abies ).
