INVAP SE ( Spanish: Inv estigaciones Ap licadas S ociedad del E stado , translated as State Society for Applied Research ) is a state-owned Argentine high-tech company based in San Carlos de Bariloche . It belongs partly to the Río Negro Province and partly to the Argentine Federal Government, which controls it through the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), and was founded in 1976. INVAP's business activities are divided between the nuclear technology , aerospace technology , defense and security technology and energy technology sectors .

In 2007, in addition to the headquarters in Bariloche, the company also had branches in Buenos Aires , Sydney ( Australia ) and Cairo ( Egypt ) as well as subsidiaries in Brazil ( INVAP do Brasil , São Paulo ) and the USA ( Black River Technology Inc. , Valparaiso , Indiana ). The company also had its Argentinian subsidiary INVAP Ingeniería SA (IISA), also based in Bariloche.

Divisions

INVAP's best-known division is nuclear technology and the construction of research reactors , some of which can be used commercially (e.g. production of raw materials for microelectronic components ) , which the company exports worldwide. A commercial reactor called CAREM has also been developed, but its construction has not yet been completed. The company is also a leader in space technology in Latin America and manufactures components for NASA's spacecraft and the national space company CONAE , in particular satellites and equipment for ground stations. It is the only company in Latin America that is able to develop complete space missions.

The company employed 360 people in the mid-2000s.
