The industry Sport Community Schwerin belonged between 1970 and 1990 the largest sporting communities of the East German district capital of Schwerin .

founding

During the existence of the highest GDR soccer class, the district capital Schwerin only had a representative in the upper league in the early 1949/50 with Vorwärts Schwerin . He had to relegate at the end of the season as bottom of the table. It was not until 1963 that Dynamo Schwerin was able to establish itself permanently in the second-rate GDR league . At the end of the 1960s, the Schwerin sports officials decided to create a high-performance sports community for the Schwerin district , which should become the focus of football independently of the SG Dynamo Schwerin football club , which is subordinate to the Dynamo sports association . In the early 1970s, several companies in Schwerin founded the Industrial Sports Association (ISG) Schwerin Süd under the leadership of the Plastmaschinenwerk. In the following years, as planned, she became known mainly for her soccer section, but the greater successes were achieved by the volleyball women, who won the GDR Cup in 1979 and 1980.

Second and third rate football

In 1975 the ISG soccer team playing in the Lankow Sports Park reached the third-class Schwerin district league via district and district classes. After a 5th place in 1976, she won the district championship a year later and had thus qualified for the second-rate GDR league. There she could always assert herself in the midfield of the twelve-team season A until 1984. She had to fend off the competition from local rivals Dynamo and Motor Schwerin, with whom she even had to play three in the GDR league in 1983/84. However, the ISG always succeeded in winning high-performing players, including several active players from rivals Dynamo, such as goalkeepers Rehm (1978) and Simbeck (1982), as well as strikers Hacker (1975), Lewerenz (1980) and Wilke (1984). There were hardly any other significant reinforcements from the Schwerin district, but players with experience of the upper division such as Axel Bergmann (27 upper division games for Hansa Rostock ), Jens-Uwe Schlieder (20 upper division games for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig ), Olaf Spandolf (24 upper division games for Hansa Rostock) ) and Volker Witt (13 league games for forward Frankfurt ). In the 1979/80 season, the ISG achieved 4th place, the best placement in their GDR league time. The trunk formation had the following appearance:

Klaus Rehm (14 missions, 29 years)

Peter Schult (12/23)
Axel Bergmann (22/30), Jörg Meinke (19/25), Hartmut Strohmenger (21/27)
Artur Schumann (22/24), Hans-Jürgen Lüttjohann (19/29), Wolfhard Ortmann (19/26)
Manfred Hausmann (20/28), Wolfgang Schwerin (22/25), Jörg Twarz (18/23)

In the 22 matches, ten of which were won with a goal difference of 47:27, coach Werner Sewe used a total of 18 players. The interest of the spectators was limited, however, in the Sportpark Lankow with a capacity of 5000 spectators only 1000 visitors came this season. Only in the top game against relegated league Hansa Rostock came 2000 spectators.

When it became known that the GDR league, which had previously comprised 60 teams, was to be reduced to 36 participants in two relays in the 1984/85 season, the Schwerin sports officials reaffirmed the status of the ISG as the district's center of excellence and called on the sponsoring companies , the sports community to promote more. As a visible external sign, the name of the sports club was changed to ISG Schwerin. However, the sporting achievements of the soccer team could not keep up. At the end of the 1984/85 season, the ISG landed with only seven wins from 34 games in 17th and penultimate place and had to relegate to the third-class district league. A year later he was immediately promoted again, but was immediately relegated back to the district league. In the season 1987/88 the ISG merged with the BSG Tiefbau Schwerin and then called itself ISG Tiefbau. Under this name she became district champion and qualified for the promotion round to the GDR league. However, the rise was missed with 4th place.

The end after the turning point

Until the end of the GDR football operation, the ISG remained third class. With the economic upheaval as a result of the political change of 1989 , the support of the Schwerin companies ended. Based on the now applicable in East Germany, law on associations in 1990 founded from the previous ISG civil engineering VfL civil engineering, from 1991 VfL Schwerin - due to leakage of the former civil engineering members they (founded the FC and civil engineering (from 1994 SSG Schwerin Görries) new and got the starting place of the 2nd team in the district class). At the same time the FSV Grün-Weiß (until 1990 BSG Chemie) joined the VfL. In the absence of sufficient financial strength, VfL Schwerin joined Schwerin SC as early as 1992, which in turn became part of FC Eintracht Schwerin in 1997.
