history

I Am Revenge was founded at the end of 2010 by former members of the bands Badge of Apathy (Gutschmidt), Between Love and Madness (Zielke) and DTA (Deniz). After a demo was released for free download on the Internet in 2011, the band released their first album on Swell Creek Records in 2012; a second album was released in 2014. In 2015 I Am Revenge played at the Traffic Jam Open Air . In early 2016, the band signed a contract with the Leipzig hardcore label Beatdown Hardwear and released their third album there.

Style and reception

I Am Revenge plays rather simple hardcore with strong metal influences and occasional rap interludes; personal experiences, feelings and fears are processed in the lyrics. Metal.de classified the album Red Gold between the styles Hardcore and Deathcore ; defining characteristics of the music are a claustrophobic and “pleasantly disturbing” mood, which is repeatedly loosened up by groovy passages. The music sounds varied and is unpredictable and of high compositional quality. Overall, according to Metal.de, I Am Revenge “certainly doesn't have to hide from international greats”. The magazine Away from Life noted a mix of styles of hardcore, metal and beatdown for the album RVNG and drew comparisons with the American band Terror . The Ox-Fanzine described the music on the debut album Pit Justice as “Moshcore”, saw strong parallels to Bury Your Dead and assessed that the band's music was clichéd and their lyrics were “a bit simpler”, but I Am Revenge would be their “role models no shame ”. For the album RVNG, the Ox noted that the band had found their own identity and presented themselves more varied than on the previous albums . The Metal Hammer defines the music on Pit Justice as “modern metalcore” with “almost exclusive focus on as many mosh and slam parts as possible”, which on the one hand comes across as technically well implemented, but on the other hand is musically not very imaginative and lyrically simple and therefore only Appeal to fans of the genre. The band members themselves name the music of the bands Bury Your Dead, Betrayal , The Acacia Strain , Throwdown and First Blood as an influence .
