I Want It All is a song by the British rock band Queen , written by their guitarist Brian May and produced by David Richards . It appeared in May 1989 on the album The Miracle and as a single . The song also appeared on the compilation albums Greatest Hits II and Absolute Greatest .

background

The song was one of the first of the Miracles songs to appear after Mercury revealed to his bandmates that he was sick. I Want It All is tangibly wild and conveys rebellion and social upheaval. May said about the song that it was about being motivated and fighting for your own goals. That is why it was used in South Africa as an anti-apartheid song and as a motivational song for African American youth, as well as in protests for gay rights.

Music video

The music video shows the band members playing on a stage in a studio with neon lights .

The version in the music video is just like the one used for Greatest Hits II , a bit shorter than the album version.

In the United States they did not reach a very high chart position on the Billboard Hot 100 - as can be seen from the table - but they also reached 3rd place on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Song Charts .

Live performances

Since Mercury was already in poor health at the time the song was released, and Queen therefore no longer gave concerts, the piece was only performed by Queen on the Queen + Paul Rodgers and Queen + Adam Lambert tours.

Roger Daltrey sang the song during the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert . Tony Iommi joined the band as the second guitarist.
