Idaturm

The Idaturm is a 28 meter high observation tower at 211  m above sea level. NN high mountain range Harrl , which belongs to the town of Bückeburg in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony . The tower is made of sandstone that was quarried in a nearby quarry .

The tower was built by Prince Georg Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe in the year of inflation and hunger in 1847 for the purpose of land surveying. The tower is named after Georg Wilhelm's wife, Princess Ida. At the same time, the Wilhelmsturm was built in the Rehburg Mountains in Wölpinghausen . The Idaturm is owned by the Princely Court Chamber in Bückeburg.

The tower, a hiking destination between Bückeburg and Bad Eilsen . has a spiral staircase with 128 steps inside . The all-round view extends to the Mindener Land , Obernkirchen, the Weser Mountains and the Steinhuder Meer . There is an excursion restaurant at the foot of the tower. After a renovation, it is operated by the old castle kitchen in Bückeburg.

Hiking trails

The Bückeberge-Weg (  X11  ) runs past the Idaturm from Porta Westfalica to Bad Nenndorf .
