If I Didn't Have You is a song by songwriter and singer Randy Newman from 2001. The song appears in the credits of the children's film " Die Monster AG ". There it was sung by John Goodman and Billy Crystal , who speak in the film, James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski.

Allmusic notes that, despite its charm, the song felt a bit like a second rate version of Toy Stories You've Got a Friend in Me .

The title won the Academy Award in the Best Song category at the 2002 Academy Awards . Previously, Randy Newman was nominated 14 times for an Oscar for best film music and best song because of his film scores and songs , but never received them. In the same year he also won a World Soundtrack Award at the International Film Festival of Flanders in Ghent in the category Best Original Song Written for a Film . The original soundtrack record also includes a version by Randy Newman. In 2002 a cover version appeared on the music album Monsters, Inc. Scream Factory Favorites by Riders in the Sky , which won a Grammy in 2003 for Best Musical Album for Children .

Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso , who starred in the television series Hannah Montana , covered the 2006 song, which appeared on the album Disneymania 6 and was produced by Bryan Todd.
