If You Leave Me Now is a song by the Chicago band that appeared on the 1976 Chicago X album. The author of the piece is the then bassist and singer Peter Cetera .
After its worldwide release in August 1976, the song climbed to number one on the American Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks on October 23 . It was the first number one hit for Chicago at all. In Great Britain , the title stayed at the top of the charts for three weeks. The song was played on many radio stations, in New York even on four stations at the same time.
If You Leave Me Now won the 1977 Grammy Awards in the categories “Best Performance by a Duo or Group - Pop” and “Best Arrangement with Vocal Performance”. The album from which the song was extracted won in the “Best Album Package” category.
