Ignace Snellen

Ignatius ("Ig" or "Ignace") Theodorus Maria Snellen (born January 16, 1933 in Hilversum ; † February 17, 2018 in Bavel, Breda ) was a Dutch administrative scientist .

Life

Snellen graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a law degree in 1954 and a degree in political and social sciences in 1960 . From 1962 he worked at Philips . He received his PhD in 1975 from the University of Amsterdam on approaches to strategy formulation.

On July 1, 1978 he became director of the Institute for Social Science Research (IVA) at the Catholic University of Brabant . On January 1, 1983, he was appointed professor for the social science theory of policy planning at the Catholic University of Nijmegen . In 1985 he was appointed professor of administrative science at Tilburg University. In 1989 he became a full professor of administrative science at the Erasmus University Rotterdam .

Snellen served as policy advisor to the Scientific Council on Government Policy and other government agencies. His specialty was the digitization of public administration . He also participated in the public debate through the media and opinion-forming articles. He was also the co-editor of several publications on the institutional aspects of e-government and its effects on politics and citizens.

In 2013 he was awarded the LP van de Spiegel Prize by the Dutch Administrative Science Association .

Snellen died in 2018 at the age of 85. He was married and had several children, including Ignas Snellen , now professor of astronomy at Leiden University .
