Ignacio Flores (football player, 1953)

Juan Ignacio "Nacho" Flores Ocaranza (born July 31, 1953 in Mexico City , † August 11, 2011 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican football player who acted in defense .

Career

During his entire professional career, which lasted from 1972 to 1990, Nacho Flores was exclusively under contract with his hometown club Cruz Azul .

In addition, Flores played twelve times for the Mexican national soccer team between 1975 and 1980 . He was also part of the Mexican World Cup squad in 1978 and played the last group game against Poland (1: 3) after national coach José Antonio Roca had replaced the entire back team with the exception of Arturo Vázquez Ayala , who had to concede six goals against West Germany.

His younger brother Luis Flores is now working as a coach after a career as a professional footballer.

With Cruz Azul , Flores won the Mexican championship four times in 1972/73 , 1973/74 , 1978/79 and 1979/80 .

death

Flores was shot dead by unknown perpetrators on August 11, 2011 near the city of Cuernavaca during an armed attack on his van in which he was traveling with his family.
