Ignacy Abramowicz (* 1793 ; † June 4, 1867 in Warsaw ) was a Polish military man who initially served in the Polish army and later placed himself in the service of the Russian army.

Life

Ignacy Abramowicz was born to Joachim in a noble family and was educated at home.

During the Fifth Coalition War in 1809 he joined the 13th Hussar Regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw in Podolia , where he was promoted to lieutenant in 1811 after the Galicia campaigns .

After the outbreak of the Sixth Coalition War in 1812, he moved with his regiment to Lithuania , where he joined Dominik Moniuszka and his brother Mikołaj Abramowicz in the 21st cavalry regiment, in which he was first major and a few days later became lieutenant colonel . He took part in campaigns in 1813 and 1814. For his military service he was awarded the Order of Virtuti Militari fourth degree and the Officier de la Légion d'Honneur . During his stay in France he married the Baroness Matylda de Mayllan.

When he returned to Poland in 1815, he asked to be released from military service, which he was granted on December 16. He then lived in Vilnius , where he founded a Masonic Lodge "Szkoła Sokratesa" (School of Socrates).

After losing his fortune in the following years, he joined the Russian army as an ensign in 1827 . This practice caused outrage among Polish society.

During the Russo-Turkish War 1828-1829 he rose to Porutschik and Rittmeister , finally he became adjutant to Ivan Fyodorowitsch Paskewitsch , who will promote him in the following years. For his military achievements, such as the conquest of Kars , he received many monetary prizes and decorations (including the Order of St. Anne and the Order of St. George ).

In 1830 he was transferred to the bodyguard and participated in battles in the Caucasus and in the suppression of the November uprising in 1831. In 1835 he became a lieutenant colonel.

In 1839 he took over the administration of the Tsar's palace in Warsaw on the orders of Paskewitsch. In 1842 he was also chairman of the theater management in Warsaw, in 1844 major general and chief police officer in Warsaw, in 1851 administrator of the principality of Łowicz, in 1853 lieutenant general and in 1854 chief police officer.

After the death of Paskewitsch Ignacy Abramowicz was dismissed against his will by his successor Mikhail Dmitrijewitsch Gorchakov in 1859 from the office of administrator of the principality of Łowicz.

After major demonstrations in 1861, he asked to be dismissed from his positions while retaining his salary. Alexander Nikolajewitsch von Lüders dismissed him, but without his salary.

He died on June 4, 1867 in Warsaw and was buried in Vilnius.
