Ignaz Baldauf
Ignaz Baldauf (christened on 17th October 1715 in Inchenhofen ; † 7. March 1795 ) was a German rococo - painter .
Life
Ignaz Baldauf is assigned to the Augsburg School . His teacher was the later director of the Augsburg Art Academy Matthäus Günther . In 1755 he was appointed court painter to the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg .
On August 6, 1742 Ignaz Baldauf married in Oberndorf the Oberdorferin Maria Barbara Schmid. The couple had three children in Oberdorf (Ignaz Josef on October 9, 1744, Maria Kreszentia on October 9, 1746 and Maria Rosa on August 8, 1748). When the fourth child was born on April 20, 1750, both mother and child died. During his stay in Oberdorf, Baldauf was awarded the contract for the setting of the high altar in St. Martin . (According to the March 1745 accord, Baldauf received 700 guilders for his work). He also painted a side altar sheet for the parish church of Thalhofen .
The ceiling paintings in the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard in his home community are considered to be Baldauf's largest and most important work .
Ignaz Baldauf mainly worked in old Bavarian churches and chapels. A street in the city of Aichach is named after him.
