from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ignaz Joseph Edler von Obernberg (born November 21, 1761 in Amberg , † March 23, 1845 in Munich ) was a German administrative officer and local historian .

Life

Joseph Obernberg's father was Franz Joseph Obernberger, government lawyer in Amberg. Joseph Obernberg attended grammar school in Amberg and then studied law at the Albertinisches Kollegium in Ingolstadt . In order to obtain a licentiate , he wrote a first historical treatise on the privileges of the rural nobility. After completing his studies, he was employed on January 14, 1765 in Schliersee as bailiff and in Miesbach as brewery administrator. On October 16, 1787 he was appointed real councilor.

On December 2, 1788, the Bavarian Academy of Sciences appointed him extraordinary and in 1803 a full member. Elector Karl Theodor raised him to the nobility on August 30, 1793. On April 23, 1799, Obernberg was appointed as a council in the then newly established upper state government. The Academy of Sciences appointed him a full member of the historical class on December 5, 1803 and an honorary member in 1808.

After the general state management was abolished and Napoleon Bonaparte expanded the borders of the state of Bavaria, Obernberg was appointed as the district chancellery director of the Salzach district on August 25, 1808 . Since November 17, 1811 he acted as a board member of the special national debt repayment commission. In this position he served until the commission was repealed at the end of June 1820. After his tenure as district director in Burghausen he was entered on July 22, 1813 in the noble class of the nobility register of the Kingdom of Bavaria .

As a part-time job, Obernberg dealt with the older history of Bavaria since Christianization. He wrote numerous treatises and essays on historical and cultural-political topics as well as some travel books (see the listing of his publications in the biography written by Anton v. Delling).

In 1818 he founded the weekly newspaper Baierisches National-Blatt , which appeared every Wednesday.
