Ignazio Alberghini

Ignazio Alberghini (born November 6, 1789 in Cento (Emilia-Romagna) , † January 30, 1869 in Rome ) was an Italian priest and dean of the Roman Rota .

Life

Ignazio Alberghini came from a patrician family of Bologna who was involved in the service of the Roman Curia . He was the son of Francesco Alberghini and Clara Comis, his older brother was the future Cardinal Giuseppe Alberghini (1770-1847). There is no information about his school or priest training. After studying law , Ignazio Alberghini was initially Aiutante di Studio with the later Cardinal Costantino Patrizi and was then appointed curia officer of the Rota Romana . In 1823 he served Cardinal Pietro Gravina during the conclave for the election of Pope Leo XII. (1823–1829) as a conclavist .

Pope Gregory XVI (1831–1846) appointed him papal judge for the court of justice in Bologna in 1836 and appointed him prelate in 1836 . Pope Pius IX (1846–1878) appointed him a member of the Council of State and on November 6, 1848, he was appointed a member of the Commission for the Reform of Civil and Criminal Proceedings. After the papal restoration of 1849 he became a member of the Congregation of Rites and he was consultor of the Congregation of the Roman and General Inquisition until March 2, 1858. On March 15, 1858 he became dean of the Holy Roman Rota.

According to the church historian Philippe Bountry , Pope Pius IX intended. to create him cardinal in 1861 , but Monsignor Ignazio Alberghine refused. The Pope accepted his resignation on September 16, 1861. Alberghini found his final resting place in the church of Il Gesù , where his brother Cardinal Giuseppe Alberghini was also buried.
