Igor Mikhailovich Zhukov
Igor Michailowitsch Schukow ( Russian Игорь Михайлович Жуков ; born August 31, 1936 in Gorky ; † January 26, 2018 in Moscow ) was a Russian pianist and conductor .
Life
Igor Schukow had lived in Moscow since early childhood , where he studied piano with Emil Gilels and Heinrich Neuhaus at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1957 he won a prize at the piano competition in Paris, named after Marguerite Long . Since then he has been a sought-after soloist in many orchestras around the world.
Many critics and music lovers see him as one of the greatest pianists of his generation, whose affinity to Russia's piano music is exemplary. His first recording of all of Alexander Scriabin's piano sonatas received great international acclaim and is considered a milestone in the composer's history of interpretation. Igor Zhukov has also made a name for himself as a conductor . He founded the New Moscow Chamber Orchestra in 1983 and directed it until it was dissolved in 1994, when he returned to his activities as a pianist. After his comeback in the Herkulessaal in Munich, the artist with the repertoire from Jean-Philippe Rameau to Alban Berg appeared again in all music centers.
