Igor Shirokov

Igor Anatoljewitsch Schirokow ( Russian Игорь Анатольевич Широков , English transcription Igor Shirokov ; born April 24, 1949 in Novosibirsk ; † January 10, 2014 in Moscow ) was a Russian jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Shirokov played in the 1960s in the Vladimir Vittikh Combo, with whom he performed at the Tallinn Jazz Festival in 1967 . In 1970 he worked with Oleg Lundstrem (album Sun Valley Serenade with Melodija ); 1972 in the Leningrad Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Josif Wainstein. In the 2000s he appeared in a quartet led jointly with Alexei Kruglow (album April in Yaroslavl , 2007). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1967 and 2008. Schirokow lived in Germany from 1992, most recently in Marburg for many years .

In his music he combined Russian folklore with classical music and jazz. In his later years he worked a. a. with Janusz Stefański , Vitold Rek , Horst Nonnenmacher , Martin Gjakonovski , Jürgen Wuchner and Tony Lakatos . He was a member of the Marburg jazz formation Quaddradd .

Igor Shirokov died of pancreatic cancer . He left two sons and a partner.
