Igor Vitalievich Savitsky
Igor Vitalievich Savitsky ( Russian Игорь Витальевич Савицкий , scientific. Transliteration Igor 'Vital'evič Savickij , English Igor Vitalyevich Savitsky , also Sawitzki transcribed; * 4. August 1915 in Kiev , Russian Empire ; † 27. July 1984 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Soviet painter , archaeologist and collector , especially the avant-garde - Art . He founded the state art museum of the Republic of Karakalpakistan , which is partly named after him, with its seat in Nukus , Uzbekistan (see also main article: Nukus Art Museum ).
Life and work
Igor Sawizki was born in Kiev in 1915 into a relatively wealthy family. He learned the profession of electrician . In 1950 he first visited Karakalpakistan to take part in the "Khorezm" Archaeological & Ethnographic Expedition , which had been conducting research since the 1930s and was led by Sergei Pavlovich Tolstov . He moved to Nukus, the capital of Karakalpakistan, and lived there until his death in 1984. From 1957 to 1966, he built an extensive collection of jewelry, carpets, coins, clothing and other artefacts from the region and convinced them Authorities from the need for their own museum. After the museum was founded, he was appointed curator in 1966 .
As a result, Sawizki also collected thousands of works by Central Asian artists such as B. Orol Tansiqboyev and Wiktor Ufimzew from the school of the Uzbeks, and later those of the Russian avant-garde such as B. Sawizki and the collection he assembled was the subject of the documentary "The Desert of Forbidden Art", which was made under the direction of Amanda Pope and Tchavdar Georgiev . Ben Kingsley gave the voice in the movie Sawizki. The film premiered at Globians Doc Fest in 2010 .
