Ihnatij Mykolajowytsch Danylowytsch ( Polish Ignacy Daniłowicz * July 30 jul. / 10. August  1787 greg. In Hryniewicze , Podlasie , Poland-Lithuania ; † June 30 jul. / 12. July  1843 greg. In Bad Gräfenberg , Austrian Silesia , Austrian Empire ) was a Ukrainian and Polish legal historian .

Life

Ihnatij Danylowytsch was the son of a Uniate Ukrainian clergyman. He went to high school in Białystok and studied law at Vilnius University until 1812, where he also taught from 1814 to 1824. Between 1812 and 1814 he served as secretary to the governor of the Bialystok region.

In 1825 he became a professor at the University of Kharkov , where he stayed until 1830. He then went to St. Vladimir University in Kiev , where he was dean of the Faculty of Law between 1835 and 1839. In 1839 he was sent to Moscow University after the Kiev University was temporarily closed due to unrest . In 1842 he returned to Kiev, where he suffered a nervous breakdown and left the service. He went to Moravia for treatment , where he died at the age of 55 in Bad Graefenberg, now Jeseník in the Czech Republic .
