The Cruise Smeralda is a ferry of the Greek shipping company Minoan Lines . It was put into service in 1998 as Ikarus , currently operating for Grimaldi Lines on the Livorno – Barcelona – Tangier line. The ship was named after Icarus , a figure from Greek mythology .

history

After a fire on the ship Aretousa , in which the ship was only slightly damaged, Minoan Lines sold the Aretousa . The Aretousa was the predecessor of the Ikarus class and was almost identical to it, but smaller. The ship was delivered to Minoan Lines on December 5, 1997 as Ikarus . Only two ships of the Ikarus class were built, as the company then used larger ships. The Ikarus and the former Pasiphea belong to the third generation of ships since the company was founded. In 2001 the ship was renamed the Ikarus Palace .

The Ikarus Palace rescued the 22-man crew and nine passengers of the UND Adriyatics off the Croatian coast after the ship caught fire on February 6, 2008.

In 2016 the name was changed to Cruise Smeralda .

Ship description

The ship offers space for around 1,528 passengers, around 40 percent of which are Pullman seats. The ship also offers the option of “ camping on board”. With this offer, owners of mobile homes are allowed to spend the crossing in a special area of ​​the car deck.

The ship offers u. a. the following entertainment options:

• shopping mall

There are nine cabin classes. All cabins have a toilet and shower, and many have a TV. The cabins are two to four bed cabins, luxury cabins have one or two beds.

There is a special area on deck for pets.
