biography
Lorenzen was the son of a pastor. He learned the trade of carpenter and then studied civil engineering. In the First World War he served as a soldier. In 1924 he worked as a civil engineer in Bremerhaven on the construction of the Columbuskaje ship landing stage . He worked for various companies.
Around 1930 he became a member of the NSDAP and local group leader of the party in Lehe and then district leader of the Wesermünde party . In 1932 he was elected a member of the city council in Bremerhaven and an honorary city councilor for construction. In March 1933, the Mayor of Bremen Richard Markert (NSDAP) appointed him as acting Lord Mayor of Bremerhaven in place of Waldemar Becké ; in May 1933 he was confirmed in office by the city council with the votes of the NSDAP and the German National People's Party . In September 1933 he was also appointed to the Bremen State Council and head of the building department for technology. He is said to have been inexperienced, but very high-handed, so that he soon got into conflict with those in power. In 1934 he gave up the post of district leader of the party. In 1939 Bremerhaven became part of the newly founded city of Wesermünde and Walter Delius (NSDAP) became mayor of the joint city. Lorenzen thereby lost his office as Lord Mayor.
In 1940 he did not follow his appointment as Lord Mayor of Kalisch in occupied Poland . During the Second World War , he became mayor of Gniezno in Poland in 1940 . He left the city, contrary to orders, in the spring of 1945 and was arrested by the Secret State Police (Gestapo) until the end of the war. The Allies interned him until 1948. He then lived in poor conditions in Hamburg and returned in 1958 to his native city of Flensburg.
