Ike Isaacs (bassist)
Charles Edward "Ike" Isaacs (* 28. March 1923 in Akron , Ohio ; † 27. February 1981 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was an American jazz - bassist , also trumpet and sousaphone poker players.
Isaacs studies trumpet at the Central Music School in Akron and in 1941 he learned bass from Wendell Marshall . He began a professional career as a bassist in the guitarist Tiny Grimes' band in 1949, then played with Earl Bostic , Mat Mathews and Paul Quinichette (1953) and Bennie Green (1954). In Ohio he founded the formation The Four Maestros . In 1956 he married the singer Carmen McRae , whom he accompanied at the Newport Jazz Festival the following year . In 1957 he also worked in the trio of Ray Bryant , 1958/59 in the rhythm section of the vocal trio Lambert, Hendricks & Ross . In 1962 he accompanied the singer Joe Williams ( A Swingin 'Night at Birdland ), in 1980 Pee Wee Erwin ( ... swingin' that music ).
