The Corriere della Sera [ korˈrjɛːre ˈdella ˈseːra ] (English evening courier , Corriere for short ) is an Italian daily newspaper . It is the Italian-language daily newspaper with the highest circulation and most widely read worldwide and, together with the daily newspaper La Repubblica and the business paper Il Sole 24 Ore, is one of the country's leading media.

The newspaper is published by the Rizzoli Corriere della Sera publishing group (RCS MediaGroup) and appears in Milan with various local and weekly supplements. Their average daily circulation is over 800,000 copies, which reach a total of around 2.5 million readers.

history

The newspaper was founded on March 5, 1876 by Eugenio Torelli Viollier and developed between 1910 and 1930 under the direction of Luigi Albertini and his brother Alberto to become the most widespread and influential independent daily newspaper in Italy. In 2003 she received the European Newspaper Award . Its main competitors include the Turinese La Stampa and the center-left- oriented Roman La Repubblica.

The Milan editorial offices are located in the same buildings as at the beginning of the 20th century, which is why the Corriere is also commonly referred to as the Via Solferino newspaper after its address . As the title suggests, the paper originally appeared as an evening edition.

In March 2006, the then editor of the Corriere della Sera made an official statement on the parliamentary elections in Italy in 2006 in favor of a center-left coalition .
