Ilija Zovko

Ilija Zovko (born August 10, 1941 in Imotski , Independent State of Croatia ; † November 9, 2009 in Split , Croatia ) was a Yugoslav and Croatian theater, television and film actor and playwright at the Croatian National Theater in Split (HNK Split).

life and career

Ilija Zovko comes from Berinovac, a village in the Lokvičići municipality in Imotska Krajina . After graduating from the pedagogical faculty at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Dubrovnik , Ilija Zovko worked at the schools in Kirvodol, Mljet and Imotski .

Then he was director of the People's University in Imotski. Then Zovko began to be interested in acting and founded an amateur club for the performing arts called Club 19. He showed its first performance in 1959. For his monodrama and pantomime work of art "I give you the knowledge", which Ilija Zovko has on every continent and performed more than 1,500 times, he was awarded at the Zemun Mime Festival in 1976. After that he devoted himself exclusively to acting.

His first engagement at the Croatian National Theater in Split was in Ivo Brešan's play Svečana večer u pogrebnom poduzeću in 1979. In 1992 he became a permanent member of the HNK Split.

Ilja Zovko worked together with Josip Zovko , Boris Dvornik, Filip Radoš, Milan Strljic in numerous performances and films, which were broadcast on the Croatian television HRT .

Zovko was a permanent employee of Radio Split. Here he worked as the author of the show, especially in satirical commentaries on daily events. The theatrical world of Ilija Zovko, written or performed, dealt with social boundaries, seemingly unimportant fates and the fortunes of the common man.

Ilija Zovko was buried on November 12, 2009 in the Lovrinac City Cemetery in Split. In honor of the artist, a memorandum was held at HNK Split on November 13, 2009 .
