action

Eight people, who couldn't be more different, meet in a bar. For one night they escape their daily routine, frozen in rituals, and embark on a journey into their world of thoughts, to their very own lust. Suppressed desires, sexual fantasies and fears come to light and long-forgotten experiences come to light again. The evening takes its course ...

background

Like 24/7 The Passion of Life  (2006) at the film production company WTP International, the film was made in an “uncontrolled open space where no public funding flows, but also where no broadcaster editors exercise any normative influence”. Due to the extensive artistic freedom that was compared with the "independent spirit of Helge Schneider , Christoph Schlingensief , Luis Buñuel and Lars von Trier ". Furthermore, references to Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut could be established.

criticism

The Süddeutsche Zeitung accused director Reber of getting lost in "this attempt at an erotic film [...] mercilessly between candles and clichés". The film-dienst writes that the “provocative, decidedly anti-bourgeois film pleases itself as a richly private mystery play with a pseudo-philosophical superstructure, but, under the guise of taboos, tips over towards irony-free old-man fantasy”. But: "In terms of film language, the staging impresses with its visual and acoustic sophistication, which almost makes the film appear as a documentation of a multimedia performance."

Bianka Piringer from Spielfilm.de spoke of an "imaginative, dreamy" feature film that "clearly falls outside the scope of normal cinema entertainment". He ranks “creative ideas together without always worrying about their context.” The conclusion was: “By letting the fantasies of his protagonists run wild during a relaxed bar evening, Roland Reber's philosophical experimental film breaks the conventions of usual cinema entertainment.” Harald Mühlbeyer wrote on kino-zeit.de : “You never forget films by Roland Reber. They are especially [...] A film that shows that there are a lot more things between heaven and earth than the film school wisdom can dream of. "

The film's music was also highlighted. Ronny Dombrowski writes on cinetastic.de : “As a mixture between the most diverse styles, Mönning succeeds [...] in giving the most diverse dream worlds their very own musical background. Roland Rebers Illusion is probably the strongest project of the WTP team so far, which approaches the lives of its characters in very different ways in its three levels. "
