occupation

In bed (Spanish original title: En la cama ) is a Chilean feature film from 2005. The chamber play-like film was directed by Matías Bize . The only two roles are played by Blanca Lewin and Gonzalo Valenzuela .

action

The film begins with a sex scene in a hotel room between Bruno and Daniela, who met that same night at a party in Santiago de Chile . Both assume that it will remain a one-night stand and pour out their hearts to each other. In between, the two love each other again and again. They only say their names after the first sex. Daniela talks about herself and about her parents' divorce. It was not the first time she had gone to bed with a stranger. She used to suffer from bulimia . She also had a boyfriend, Rodrigo, who used to beat her up a lot. But she had forgiven him again and again and he was currently on a business trip.

Bruno talks about the separation from his girlfriend Franziska. He also tells Daniela that his brother disappeared during his childhood. Bruno, who is proud of Daniela's "conquest", learns from overheard a phone call that Daniela had already announced at her friend's party that she would go to bed with him, the stranger. Bruno is not enthusiastic about it. When Bruno accidentally calls Daniela "Franziska" during sex, she is outraged. When Daniela is in the toilet, Bruno searches her handbag to find out more about her. In it he finds wedding cards showing that Daniela will marry Rodrigo in a few days. Bruno doesn't ask her about it. When day comes, Daniela snuggles up to Bruno. The film ends uncertainly, but suggests that it will remain a one-night stand.

production

The film was supposed to be Chile's entry to the 79th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film , but was not accepted. The film won several film awards. The film can be seen as a remake of the French feature film Nuit d'été en ville (A Summer Night in the City) from 1990, which has almost the same plot. In 2010 a similar film was released, entitled One Night in Rome (Habitación en Roma) , which depicts a similar situation between two women. The film was supported by the North Rhine-Westphalia Film Foundation , among others .
