Immanuel Friedrich Gregorius (born February 7, 1730 in Kamenz ; † September 9, 1800 in Lauban ) was a German Lutheran theologian and historian.

Life

Immanuel Friedrich Gregorius was born in Kamenz in 1730 as the son of Johann Friedrich Gregorius . He will have received his first training from his father. Then he attended the grammar school in Görlitz, where he acquired the tools to be able to attend a university. Just like his father, he decided to study at the University of Wittenberg , where he entered the university's registry on May 18, 1748. At that university he attended the lectures of Johann Heinrich Martinus in poetry, Martin Hassen in ethics, Johann Wilhelm Hoffmann in history, Georg Wilhelm Kirchmaier in Greek language and literature, Karl Gottlob Sperbach in philosophy, and Ernst Christian Schröder in dialectical Logic, with Georg Friedrich Baermann , as well as Johann Friedrich Weidler in mathematics and with Johann Wilhelm von Berger in rhetoric.

Formed in this way, he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy a year later on April 30, 1749 and then occupied himself with theological studies. In 1751 he went to the grammar school in Lauban as vice-principal. In 1758 he became second deacon, 1767 first deacon, 1772 archdeacon and early preacher and in 1793 first pastor in Lauban. In addition to his extensive work, Gregorius has established himself as an author, above all as a respected historian. Among other things, he has dedicated himself to the biographical research of Joachim Samuel Weickmann , Petrus and Vincentus von Ravenna . In addition, extensive specialist articles are known in various scholarly journals. He also wrote articles on Christian Gottlieb Jöcher's General Scholarly Lexicon. The writer Johanne Elisabeth Gregorius (born September 29, 1765 in Lauban, † after 1823 in Dresden) is his daughter.
