The Emperor Angelfish ( Pomacanthus imperator ), seawater aquarium shortly Imperator called, is a kind of genus Pomacanthus from the family of angelfish (Pomacanthidae). They become 40 centimeters long.
distribution
It lives in the Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea to Hawaii. It is particularly common in the northern Great Barrier Reef and around New Guinea . He prefers coral-rich outer reefs down to a depth of 25 meters.
behavior
Emperor angelfish live alone, in pairs or in threes. They can make grunts and use them to scare intruders out of their territory.
Color change
Emperor angelfish go through a color change over the course of their life. As young fish, they are dark blue in color with concentric white and light blue rings, the center of which is just before the base of the tail. The adults are given a yellow-blue striped drawing along the length with striking black fields on the head, which also camouflage the eyes. The dorsal fin has an extended tip. The young were previously described as a separate species Pomacanthus nicobariensis .

Emperor angelfish feed on sponges , sea squirts , bryozoa, and algae.

Emperor angelfish are sold as aquarium fish and are considered expensive prestige objects for many marine aquarists. They have been kept in the aquarium for 15 years.
