In Malice's Wake is an Australian thrash metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 2001.
history
The band was formed in 2001 by guitarist and singer Shaun Farrugia and drummer Mark Farrugia. In 2005 she released the EP Blackened Skies in self-publication . In 2008 the debut album Eternal Nightfall followed. After a second album in 2011 under the name The Thrashening , the third album, entitled Light upon the Wicked , followed in 2015 via Punishment 18 Records . In 2014, a self-published DVD called Visions of Live Destruction was also released . The group had achieved the record deal through their befriended band Harlott , which at the time was under contract with Punishment 18 Records. Harlott, in turn, had put In Malice's Wake in touch with a friend of the label. On the album, bassist Luke Blaso, who had previously appeared on The Thrashening for the first time , and guitarist Dave Graham have been replaced by Karl Watterson and Leigh Bartley. The recordings had taken place with Chris Themelco in the Monolith Studios . So far in their career the band has toured Australia and New Zealand and has played with Mortal Sin , Forbidden , Krisiun , Warbringer and Destruction , among others .
style
Brian Fischer-Giffin described the band's music in his book Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal as "crispy", melodic Thrash Metal. Nick Webb from metal-temple.com described the music on Light upon the Wicked as fast, aggressive and furious Thrash Metal. The music is characterized primarily by fast riffs , breaks and guttural vocals that are not sung, but also not really shouted . Occasionally the group adds melodic passages, the guitar solos used are mostly short and technically not very demanding. The songs would hardly differ from one another in speed, shape or structure and would cover the usual themes that all thrash metal bands would use since the early 1980s, such as violence, condemnation, blood and suffering. In an interview with Luxi Lahtinen, Shaun Farrugia named Bloodbath , Vader , Vital Remains and Behemoth as influences. In another interview with rockandmetalinmyblood.com , he stated that the band was most heavily influenced by Sodom and the Testament .
