Fontaine-la-Rivière is a French municipality with 212 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Étampes and is part of the canton of Étampes (until 2015: canton of Méréville ). The inhabitants are called Fontainiens .

Fontaine-la-Rivière is located about 55 kilometers south-southwest of Paris . Fontaine-la-Rivière is surrounded by the neighboring communities Boissy-la-Rivière in the north, Marolles-en-Beauce in the east and northeast, Abbéville-la-Rivière in the south and southeast and Saint-Cyr-la-Rivière in the west.
