Lardy Town Hall

Lardy is a municipality in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France in France . It has 5526 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Lardy belongs to the Arrondissement of Étampes and the Canton of Arpajon . The inhabitants are called Larziacois .

geography

Lardy is located on the banks of the Juine River about 38 kilometers southwest of central Paris . It is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Avrainville and Cheptainville in the north, Saint-Vrain in the east and northeast, Bouray-sur-Juine in the southeast, Janville-sur-Juine in the south and southwest, Chamarande in the west and Torfou in the northwest.

history

The name of the place and the inhabitants comes from the old name Larziacum from the 12th century. The community in its current form has existed since 1793.

Community partnerships

A partnership has existed with the Canadian community of Les Laurentides in the province of Québec since 1990. The municipality has also been friends with the German municipality of Stemwede since 2018 .
