Mondeville is a French municipality with 727 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Essonne in the region of Ile-de-France .
geography
Mondeville is eight kilometers southwest of Mennecy . The municipality is located in the Gâtinais français Regional Nature Park .
history
The place was first mentioned as Munda Villa or Villa in Monte (house on the mountain) in 980. It belonged to the castellany of Corbeil-Essonnes . From 1451 until the French Revolution , Mondeville belonged to the Cistercian convent Port Royal des Champs .
After the revolution, it belonged to the Seine-et-Oise department until 1964 . Until 1929 the municipality belonged to the arrondissement Étampes, then to the old arrondissement Corbeil-Essonnes, which was dissolved in 1966. Since 1967 Mondeville has belonged again to the Arrondissement of Étampes .
Culture and sights
The mooring cross of Mondeville, called Croix Rouge , has been classified as a Monument historique since 1969 . It is owned by the municipality.
The Saint Martin church dates from the 12th century. The roof structure and vault were restored in 1850. It is entered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques (historical monuments).
In the mountains west of Mondeville there are climbing routes of difficulty levels 2b to 6b.
