In My Own Words is the debut album of the American singer Ne-Yo .
Emergence
Ne-Yo wrote the lyrics for all the songs himself. As a producer, he was able to engage Stargate , who was responsible for six songs on the album. The album was released in the United States on February 28, 2006 and peaked at number 1 on the Billboard 200 with 301,000 units sold in its first week . Only at Stay was a guest musician involved with Peedi Peedi.
reception
On allmusic.com Andy Kellman called the album very focused and to the point, especially for an album with multiple producers. Ne-Yo is not the "flashiest" singer, but he balances very well between hardness and tenderness. Kellman awarded four out of five stars, the website awarded the "AMG Album Pick" award. In Rolling Stone album of Jonathan rings is rated three stars out of five. He compared Ne-Yo's rather high tenor with Stevie Wonders and, in view of the lyrics of So Sick and Get Down Like That, characterized him as “freak in the sheets but a gentleman on the streets”: “A freak in bed, but a gentleman up the street".
