In Silico is the second studio album by the British-Australian drum and bass band Pendulum . It was released in German-speaking countries on May 30, 2008 by Warner Music Group and is the first album to be released on a major label.

Emergence

After the debut album Hold Your Color , the band switched to the major label Warner Music. The work on the new album was influenced by more influences from other music genres than the previous album. First individual beats and themes were created on the computer, which were later merged, vocals and the remaining instruments were later recorded in the studio. The recordings were made between 2007 and 2008. The album was released on May 13, 2008, in Germany on May 30, 2008.

The album itself was able to place itself in the album charts in three countries, in two of which it reached the top ten. The most successful placement was achieved in the adopted country of Great Britain , where it was in second place and stayed in the charts for a total of 44 weeks. Further successes were recorded in Australia (9th place) and New Zealand (21st place).

In the British charts, three singles were also able to place. Propane Nightmares reached number 9, Granite number 29 and The Other Side number 54 on the singles charts.

Reviews

The album was recorded mixed by music critics .

Mathias Möller from Laut.de is very positive about the album . He particularly praises the songwriting and the resulting versatility of the songs, especially highlighting The Tempest and Showdown . He awards four out of five possible stars as a rating.

With four out of ten possible points, Harald Jakobs rates the album less positively on Plattentests.de . The main criticism mentioned is that the pieces do not evoke any emotions and that the mix between drum and bass and rock music would rarely succeed.

In her review for Allmusic , Jo-Ann Greene awards four out of five possible stars and thus gives the album a positive rating. She is of the opinion that Pendulum manages to reunite electronic and rock well with this album.

With 4.5 out of ten possible points, the album only received an average rating from cdstarts.de. Critic Albert Ranner thinks that the greater inclusion of rock music and vocals is not good for the album.

Occurrence in the media

Songs from the album were used in various media. The video racing game Pure used the songs Granite and Showdown . The racing game Need for Speed: Undercover used the titles Granite , 9,000 Miles and The Tempest .

Pieces from the album have also been used in films and television series. Excerpts from the song Showdown were used in both the film Punisher: War Zone and the episode The Attack of the television series CSI: NY . The British series EastEnders used the piece Midnight Runner . The song Mutiny was also used for a commercial for Munity Wireless .
