The series consists of two separate two-part stories that revolve around the Ermitterlin Helen Weeks. In the first two-part series, Weeks finds out she is pregnant and is embroiled in a case where her childhood best friend's husband is accused of kidnapping two young girls. In the second two-part series, the heavily pregnant Weeks deals with the death of a friend who shows connections in the criminal underground of Manchester.
