In the Eye of the Storm (In the Eye of the Storm) , the first is the studio - album of the British Pop - / rock musician Roger Hodgson , the founder member of the British band Supertramp was. His solo debut album was released in 1984 and sold well in Switzerland and Norway , otherwise moderately.

description

Roger Hodgson left Supertramp after “… famous last words…” (1982), the band's seventh studio album, and an extensive farewell tour in favor of a solo career, because he and the second band leader, Rick Davies , could no longer agree on the music direction. Hodgson wanted to keep making pop and rock music, while Davies wanted to put a stronger emphasis on blues and jazz.

After separating from the band that had been successful up until then, Hodgson withdrew into his nature-loving family life and spent a lot of time with his children. In his studio, the Unicon Studio, he continued to work. His solo debut album In the Eye of the Storm was released in 1984 and found more than two million buyers. He turned down several offers to go on tour, and remained in his family life.

The style of music on In the Eye of the Storm is often referred to as progressive art pop and is partly reminiscent of the Supertramp style of the 1970s. Keyboard sounds (especially in In Jeopardy and Give Me Love, Give Me Life ) and staccato- like piano sounds stand out as the main instruments, while other instruments, such as the wind instruments typical of Supertramp (e.g. saxophone), take a back seat .

The best-known songs on the album are Had a Dream (Sleeping with the Enemy) (with almost 8½ minutes the second longest song on the record), whose video was often shown by MTV , for example , In Jeopardy and the ballad Lovers in the Wind (with a little more than 4 minutes shortest song) and the bombastic-symphony-like Only Because of You (with a little more than 8½ minutes longest work). The songs are on average over 6½ minutes long.

About three years after the critically acclaimed In the Eye of the Storm , the studio album Hai Hai was released.
