Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal -

Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal is the first live DVD by British pop / rock musician Roger Hodgson , the former founding member of the British pop / rock group Supertramp for many years . It was at a concert in particular Canadian Montreal received on 6 June 2006, six years after the album " Open the Door " published on August 28 of 2006. In Canada, the DVD sold very well, whereupon it was released on September 14, 2007 in other countries and was also marketed successfully.

description

The live DVD was recorded during Hodgson's tour on June 6, 2006 at a concert in Montreal , the second largest city in Canada and the largest in the province of Québec . The venue for the show was the Place des Arts event center in downtown . During this tour, Hodgson gave concerts in Canada for the first time since the last Supertramp tour with him in 1983.

"Take the Long Way Home - Live in Montreal" was released on August 28, 2006 by the DEP / Universal Canada label in Canada only. It became a platinum DVD in just 7 weeks and quickly achieved double platinum status. After this success and the insistence of numerous fans, the DVD from Eagle Vision with a slightly changed cover and additional bonus material was released on September 14, 2007 in many other countries.

Roger Hodgson (acoustic guitar, keyboards and piano) performed in the concert, who sang all the songs with his famous falsetto per main voice, only with his friend Aaron MacDonald (keyboards, clarinet, melodica, harmonica and saxophones) from London ( Ontario , Canada ), who partly acted as a background singer.

The concert part of the DVD offers, with good picture and sound quality, Supertramp classics such as “Take the Long Way Home”, “Give a Little Bit”, “ The Logical Song ”, “Breakfast in America”, “ Dreamer ”, “ It's Raining Again "and" School "as well as a few songs from Hodgson's solo career, including the previously unreleased" Oh Brother (Keep the Pigeons Warm) ". The special thing about it is the simplicity of the performance without a pompous stage and without a large play of light. During the Montreal concert, Hodgson and his guest musician MacDonald staged an impressive atmosphere in front of an enthusiastic audience. The songs are simply instrumentalized as they were once composed by him - without bass and electric guitar and without drums: only with acoustic guitar, piano and keyboard as main instruments.

The song “Dreamer” and small excerpts from the songs “The Logical Song” and “Fool's Overture” are available as bonus material from a concert on the Nokia Night of the Proms tour in 2004. These three works were played by Hodgson and a classical orchestra including a choir. However, the image quality is poor here.

Further extras are (for example with subtitles in German ): recordings of the “sound check”, recordings of audience impressions (called “fans' impressions”), backstage recordings (“backstage pass”), a “photo gallery”, two interviews (“A. conversation with Roger "and" Montreal interview ") and" Roger's repertoire "(listing of Hodgson songs).
