Night of the Proms (concert series)
The Night of the Proms is a series of concerts in classical music with pop music coincides. The concerts taking place in Germany operated under the name The Nokia Night of the Proms until 2010 , as they were supported by Nokia . From 2011 to 2013 AIDA was the main sponsor of the tour, which was called AIDA Night of the Proms during this period . Since 2014 the tour has been on the way without a main sponsor.
history
The concert series was inspired by the Last Night of the Proms . This is the final concert of the BBC Proms that takes place every year in London's Royal Albert Hall . The latter is a classical music festival held since 1895 (without encounter with pop). Thanks to the broadcasts on the BBC channels since 1927, the final concert in particular has millions of listeners every year.
In 1984 the Belgian students Jan Van Esbroeck and Jan Vereecke developed a concert that played not only classical but also pop. On October 19, 1985, this concert finally took place in the Sports Palace of Antwerp in front of 13,000 spectators. The “Pop meets Classic” concept was so successful that it was exported to the Netherlands in 1990 and to Germany in 1994 . Until 2015, the Belgian symphony orchestra Il Novecento under the direction of Robert Groslot and prominent pop musicians toured through France , Austria , Luxembourg , Switzerland , Spain and Denmark , attracting around half a million people to the arenas. After 880 concerts of the Night Of The Proms , Robert Groslot stopped conducting this concert series in 2015. Since then the Brazilian has conducted Alexandra Arrieche . The Il Novecento orchestra was renamed the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 . At the Night of the Proms, national stars are also invited to the shows in the respective countries. An instrument or a young artist is also presented every year. In 1995 the then unknown tenor Andrea Bocelli and in 2001 the also still unknown Laith Al-Deen were invited to take part in the tour. The participants of a corresponding year are usually announced six months before the start of the tour. In Germany the concerts are currently moderated by Markus Othmer , Marcus Fahn and Stefan Frech .
The song " Music ", sung by John Miles, is a regular feature .
In 2014 there were performances for the first time in Poland and the USA.
