Remy van Kesteren (born March 8, 1989 in Zeist ) is a Dutch harpist .

biography

Education

Remy van Kesteren was accepted into Erika Waardenburg's class at the Utrecht Conservatory at the age of ten and graduated in 2010 with the highest distinction. He continued his education at the Paris Conservatory , where he studied with the famous harpist Isabelle Moretti. In 2012 he obtained his master's degree summa cum laude from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam .

Prices

Van Kesteren has won several awards. He is the winner of the Elisabeth Everts Prize, the prize for outstanding young talent in the Netherlands. He won first prizes at the Dutch Harp Competition and the Princess Christina Competition. In 2008 he won third place at the International Harp Competition in Moscow and in 2009 third prize at the renowned International Harp Competition in Israel. That year he also won the final of the competition of the Stichting Jong Muziektalent Nederland, which earned him the title Jong Muziektalent 2009 . In October 2012 he toured as the winner of the Dutch Classical Talents, an incentive project by the Concertgebouw Orchestra and NPO Radio 4 , the finale of which took place on April 21, 2013 at Het Concertgebouw. In 2013 he won the Grachtenfestivalpreis, which is awarded annually to a young musician or an ensemble at the start of an international career. In 2016 he received the Dutch Music Prize, the highest award from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for classical musicians.

Concerts

His many awards have led to concerts all over the world, from Europe to the USA, Japan and Africa. At the age of sixteen he made his debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with the Nederlands Kamerorkest. A year earlier he played at Princess Amalia's christening and performed at Carnegie Hall , New York. In 2011 he was Young Artist in Residence at the NJO Music Summer in Gelderland. At the end of last year he toured the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany on the famous Night of the Proms . He was the only classical soloist to appear alongside such controversial pop artists as Anastacia and the legendary Jacksons . According to the Proms organization, Remy "has the courage, the looks and the mastery to bring attention to a unique instrument that has never been in the spotlight at Night of the Proms". Remy was "the best surprise of the evening", according to the Flemish newspaper De Morgen. In 2016 he was a guest at the national memorial concert Bridge to Liberation Experience.

Dutch Harp Festival

At the age of 20 he founded the Dutch Harp Festival, of which three successful editions have already taken place in Utrecht in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Under his artistic direction, the festival experienced its third edition in February 2014 with prominent artists such as the writer / poet Kees van Kooten , the soprano Claron McFadden and the choreographer Hans van Manen . Remy also worked with Van Manen on a new ballet, which premiered in spring 2014 with the Dutch National Ballet.

Remy van Kesteren is a popular guest on radio and television.
