Charles Maximilian Siem (born January 14, 1986 ) is a British classical violinist.

Life

Charlie Siem was born in London , England . His father is Kristian Siem, a Norwegian businessman, and his mother is Karen Ann, née Moross.

Siem started violin lessons at the age of three. His interest was piqued when he heard the tapes his mother was playing. He studied at Eton College and Girton College in Cambridge and continued his violin studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky and Shlomo Mintz . He played his first concert with an orchestra at the age of 15 and he played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 18. He has gained recognition in recent years by playing with artists such as The Who and Miley Cyrus . Siem also modeled u. a. for Dunhill London and Hugo Boss . In 2010 he was heard in the Night of the Proms concert series .

He plays a Guarneri del Gesù violin from 1735, also known as d'Egville. The violin was previously owned by Yehudi Menuhin .

Siem is an ambassador for The Prince's Trust and is a firm believer in spending time on charity.

Private

Siem is distantly related to the Norwegian virtuoso violinist and composer Ole Bull . His sister, Sasha Siem, is also a musician.

Orchestras and chamber ensembles

Siem has performed with many of the world's best orchestras and chamber ensembles, including the Bergen Philharmonic, Camerata Salzburg , Czech National Symphony , Israel Philharmonic , London Symphony , Moscow Philharmonic , Oslo Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra .

Top conductors

He has worked with top conductors such as Charles Dutoit , Edward Gardner, Zubin Mehta , Yannick Nézet-Séguin , Sir Roger Norrington , Libor Pešek and Yuri Simonov. International festival appearances to date include Spoleto , St. Moritz , Gstaad , Bergen , Tine @ Munch, the Festival Internacional de Santa Lucía and the Windsor Festival. Siems regular sonata partner is the well-known pianist Itamar Golan.

Personal classical compositions

In 2014 he wrote his first composition - Canopy, for violin and string orchestra - for the US television station CBS Watch !, which he recorded with the English Chamber Orchestra .
