Krajná Polana (until 1927 Slovak "Polana", Hungarian Ladomérmező - until 1907 Krajnópolyana ) is a municipality in the northeast of Slovakia with 216 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Svidník of, a circle kraj Prešovský lies and traditional Landscape Šariš is counted.

The municipality is located in the northern part of the Low Beskydy Mountains at the mouth of the Bodružalík brook in the Ladomírka , near the state border with Poland . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 330 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Svidník .
Neighboring communities are Krajná Bystrá in the north, Nižný Komárnik in the north-east, Bodružal in the east, Krajné Čierno in the south and Hunkovce in the west.
history
Krajná Poľana was founded between 1573 and 1598 in the territory of Makovica Castle and was first mentioned in writing in 1618 as Polona alias Polianka Krainaj . When subjects fled in 1712, the village became depopulated. In 1787 the village had 14 houses and 98 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 20 houses and 162 inhabitants who were employed as shepherds, manufacturers of wooden objects, cattle farmers and weavers.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the time of the first Czechoslovak Republic, the inhabitants worked in the local sawmill, as forest workers and as seasonal workers on surrounding large estates. During the battle for the Duklapass in late 1944, a large part of the village was destroyed, but then rebuilt.

According to the 2011 census, Krajná Poľana had 213 residents, including 157 Slovaks , 38 Russian , two Roma and one Czech . 15 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
154 residents professed their support for the Greek Catholic Church, 25 residents for the Roman Catholic Church and eight residents for the Orthodox Church. Eight residents were non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for 18 residents.
