Miroľa (Hungarian Mérfalva - until 1902 Mirolya ) is a municipality in the Svidník district in north- eastern Slovakia .
The small community Miroľa, about six kilometers from the border with Poland , is located in the area between the mountain ranges Ondavská vrchovina (Ondauer Bergland) and Laborecká vrchovina (Labortzer Bergland), both parts of the eastern Lower Beskids . Located near the source of a tributary of the Chotčianka , which flows into the upper Ondava in Stropkov , the village is only a little below a pass that leads north into the Ladomirka valley and the Duklapass . The highest point in the immediate vicinity of the municipality is the Lesky at 660 meters above sea level.
The main road through Miroľa, running in north-south direction, leads from Bodružal over a 400 m high pass and follows the river valley to Pstriná and Staškovce to the south . The towns of Svidník and Stropkov are each 20 kilometers from Miroľa.
Miroľa is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Bodružal in the north, Príkra in the northeast, Vladiča in the east and southeast, Pstriná in the south and Kožuchovce in the west.
In 1572 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document. In addition to a small Greek Catholic church, the wooden church of the protection of the Mother of God is particularly worth seeing. The iconostasis of the Orthodox Church, built in 1770, is designed according to precise iconographic principles. The icon motifs include folk scenes with shepherds and women in traditional costumes.
The population has decreased in recent years (1991: 119 inhabitants; 2001: 85 inhabitants). The population of Miroľa consists of 78% Slovaks , 20% of the residents are Russian . 51% of the inhabitants stated that their denomination was Greek-Catholic , approx. 47% profess to the Orthodox Church .
