Mestisko (Hungarian Kishely - until 1907 Mesztiszkó ) is a municipality in the northeast of Slovakia with 461 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Svidník , a circle of Prešovský kraj , lies and traditional landscape Šariš is counted.

The village is located in the Ondavská vrchovina mountains , between the Ondava and Hrabovčík valleys . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 242 m nm and is seven kilometers from Svidník .
Neighboring municipalities are Svidník in the north, Stročín in the east, Duplín in the south, Rakovčík in the south-west, Mlynárovce in the west and Hrabovčík in the north-west.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1414 as Wywaras and belonged to the territory of Makovica Castle . In 1427, 52 portals were recorded according to a tax register, in 1787 the village had 47 houses and 378 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, shepherds and cattle herders, and in the 19th century there was a sand pit .
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Mestisko had 471 residents, including 421 Slovaks , 12 Russians , two Ukrainians and one German . 32 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
341 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 52 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 19 residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Brethren and the Jewish community. 16 residents had no denomination and 41 residents had no denomination.
