Šarišský Štiavnik (until 1946 Slovak "Štavník" - to 1927 "Ščavník" or "Štiavnik"; Hungarian Sósfüred ) is a municipality in the northeast of Slovakia with 278 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Svidník , a circle of Prešovský kraj , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the Lower Beskids in the upper valley of the Radomka brook . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 229 m nm and is 15 kilometers from Svidník and 44 kilometers from Prešov .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1414 and belonged to the Makovica domain (seat of the Zborov Castle ). The name goes back to the local mineral spring, locally called ščavica , and is shown in the coat of arms. However, the village was abandoned at the end of the 15th century and the successor is still listed as "new" in a source from 1559. In 1588 a tax of 1¼ Porta was due. In 1828 there are 40 houses and 307 inhabitants who were mainly active in agriculture, wood processing and charcoal burning. The spa was founded in the 18th century and was active in various forms until 1999.
