Franz Thyriot

Franz Thyriot (born May 6, 1869 in Hanau ; † April 21, 1934 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German architect .

Life

Thyriot was the son of Johann Peter (Jean Pierre) Thyriot (1833-1917) and his wife Wilhelmine (née Mahrt). His father was a town planning officer, curator of the new museum and member of the board of the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies for the Hanau area.

Thyriot studied at the Technical University (Berlin-) Charlottenburg and worked independently in (Berlin-) Groß-Lichterfelde until 1908 , since then in Frankfurt.

He achieved particular success with his designs for school and educational buildings. As part of his work on the Neues Frankfurt project, he was also involved in the implementation of the last construction phase of the Riederwaldsiedlung .

The newspaper editor and writer Hans Thyriot (1898–1949) was his son.

  • 1911: Competition design for a new town hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr (awarded 2nd prize, not executed)
  • 1911–1913: Municipal secondary school in Oberursel (Taunus) , Zeppelinstrasse
  • 1913: Competition design for a German embassy in Washington, DC (awarded 2nd prize, not executed)
  • 1923: Riederwald School in Frankfurt-Riederwald
  • 1925: Competition design for a Protestant church in Völklingen (awarded 3rd prize, not carried out)
  • 1925–1926: Station reception building in Bad Orb
  • 1929–1930: House of Youth in Frankfurt am Main, Hansaallee 150 (today senior citizen's office)
