Hai Hai is the second studio - album of the British Pop - / rock musician Roger Hodgson , the former founding member of the British band Supertramp . Three years after the album " In the Eye of the Storm " it was released in 1987 and sold quite well in Switzerland and Norway - otherwise sluggishly.
description
In contrast to his 1984 predecessor album, for which Roger Hodgson had recorded or played most of the instruments alone, he invited over 20 studio musicians to record "Hai Hai", including the Toto musicians David Paich , Jeff Porcaro and Steve Porcaro .
As on the previous album, the wind instruments typical of Supertramp (e.g. saxophone) only play a minor role on “Hai Hai”. Viewed in its entirety, the record is a fusion of Supertramp's progressive pop-rock style of the 1970s and early 1980s and the synthesizer technology of the late 1980s. All songs were composed, texted and sung as the lead vocal by Hodgson.
Critics often name "London", an ode to the often rainy British capital of Hodgson, who lives in distant California, "Desert Love" and "Puppet Dance" as the best songs on the album . A really rocking song is "My Magazine". "Land Ho" dates from 1974, when Roger recorded the album " Crime of the Century " with Supertramp .
In the week of the album's release, Hodgson's career was abruptly interrupted by an accident: he fell from an attic in his California estate and broke both wrists. Therefore, he could not go on tour. Although doctors had predicted him he would never be able to really play guitar again, managed Hodgson "with confidence and after a long period of self-healing and physical therapy " to restore the mobility of his wrists.
About ten years after “Hai Hai”, the live album Rites of Passage was released.
