Indeno [1,2,3- cd ] pyrene is a chemical compound from the group of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). It is classified by the IARC in Group 2B, “possibly carcinogenic ”, and has UN number 3077.

Indeno [1,2,3- cd ] pyrene occurs naturally in crude oil and is ubiquitous as a product of incomplete combustion. It is found, for example, in cigarette smoke , automobile and industrial exhaust fumes, grilled meat products and cooking oils, as well as in soil, groundwater and surface water.

It is one of 16 PAHs included in the list of priority pollutants (EPA list) by the United States Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) and is on the EU list of PAHs that are recommended to be examined.
