The Independence Stadium ( German  Independence Stadium ) is a football stadium in the district of Olympia the Namibian capital Windhoek . It is the largest stadium and national stadium in the country.

In addition to almost all the games of the Namibian national soccer team , other competitions - such as athletics - and events are held here. The big celebration of Namibia's independence takes place here every year.

The 2014 African Cup of Nations played in the stadium. The stadium had a capacity of 19,300 seats for this.

renovation

From mid-December 2009 to March 2010, extensive renovation work was carried out on the stadium. The reasons for this included the 20th anniversary of independence on March 21, 2010 and also to give teams participating in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa the opportunity to carry out their preparations in Namibia.

Confusion of names

The stadium is not to be confused with the district Katutura located Sam Nujoma Stadium and Independence Stadium in the city nordnamibischen Oshakati .
