Map of Olympia in the urban area of Windhoek
|
Olympia is a south-eastern suburb of Windhoek , which was founded in the 1980s. Due to the expansion of the Windhoek urban area, it is to be expected that Olympia will be relatively central in the near future, as it was originally planned as a quiet residential district on the outskirts of the city.
Olympia is best known for the Olympia Sport Grounds (sports area). In addition to the Independence Stadium , the national stadiums Hage-Geingob ( rugby ) and the tennis stadium , one of the city's two public swimming pools and various sports clubs (including SK Windhoek ) are located here. In the next few years, further sports and leisure activities (including a large children's play center) will be created on large wasteland. The former German School Windhoek (today Delta School Windhoek ) is also located in this district.
Due to the sporting orientation of the district, a large number of street names are named after athletes or sports. Among other things, “ Frank Fredericks Strasse” can be found here .
Olympia is largely a purely residential area with no industrial settlements. The land prices move in the upper segment and the residential areas are dominated by large single houses.
