The 2014 African Women Championship ( English African Women Championship , French Championnat d'Afrique de football féminin ) was the ninth edition of the African continental championship in women's football and took place in Namibia from October 11th to 25th, 2014 . The championship is also the African qualification for the 2015 Women's World Cup , in which three African teams will take part for the first time. The top three teams qualify for the World Cup in Canada .
The CAF announced the award to Namibia on September 27, 2011 .
The organization was the largest international sporting event to date in the South West African state and the first participation of the Namibian national soccer team for women .
The naming rights for the tournament were acquired by the mobile communications division TN Mobile from Telecom Namibia for six million Namibian dollars .
qualification
The qualification was played in two rounds in a knockout system with a return leg. In the first round the 22 weaker nations should meet, with some teams withdrawing after the announcement. The winners and teams qualified without a fight because of the withdrawals made it to the second round, in which they determined the seven teams that qualified for the final round with the three first place finishers in the last championship.
Defending champions Equatorial Guinea failed to qualify for the finals. In qualifying, the team was eliminated due to the away goals rule against the Ivory Coast.
