The Africa Women Cup of Nations 2016 ( English Africa Women Cup of Nations , French Coupe d'Afrique des nations féminine ) was the tenth edition of the African continental championship in women's football and took place in Cameroon from November 19 to December 3, 2016 .
qualification
The qualification was played in two rounds in a knockout system with a return leg. The 22 weaker nations met in the first round. In the second round, the winners determined the seven teams that qualified for the final round with the three first place finishers in the last championship.
Attendees
After qualifying, Equatorial Guinea was excluded due to a player who was not eligible to play. Mali moved up for this.
Venues
The tournament took place in the capital Yaoundé ( Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium ) and in Limbe ( Limbe Stadium ).
mode
The eight participating teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. The two group first and second played crosswise in the semifinals. The winners advanced to the final, the losers played for third place.
competition
The group stage draw took place in Yaoundé on September 18, 2016 . Cameroon as the host and Nigeria as the defending champion were automatically set as group heads.
